Tonight I was inspired by Micky Aldridge (not Ricky Cadden, as I said in the video - my apologies to both), who wrote about Nokia finally acknowledging the N97 scratched lens problem, which I've experienced myself.
I used Micky's tutorial on replacing the N97 lens cover to fix the scratched lens on my N97 review unit with a MacGyver-esque hack involving a floppy disk :)
If you're thinking WTF, watch my video! No matter what, dont try this at home, unless you're OK voiding your warranty...

Another day, another unboxing :)
I was recently offered to test the second subsidized 8-megapixel cameraphone in the US, the Sony Ericsson C905a the first being the Samsung T929 (Memoir), one of my favorite devices this year.
Of course, being slightly obsessed with mobile photography and rather fond of those quirky Nordic devices, I accepted!
The C905a is the successor to the wonderful Sony Ericsson K850i, which was my primary phone for some time.
It ditches the K850is candybar design in favor of a slider layout, uses a larger screen (2.4″ instead of 2.2″), looses the dual-format card slot (now only M2, not also micro-SD), and adds GPS & WiFi.
Unfortunately, WiFi is disabled in AT&Ts firmware and can only be enabled by debranding the phone
Although feature-wise, the C905a is similar to the Nokia N86 8MP, it is not a smartphone. It trumps the N86 with a Xenon flash, but lacks the OLED display and the standard ports (mini-USB & 3.5 mm audio).
Stay tuned as I compare the C905a camera to the Memoir and the N86 in the meantime, here are my unboxing pictures and unboxing video.

Last week I received a Nokia N97 mini review unit from Molly & co at Nokia Blogger Relations! As the name implies, its basically the Nokia N97s little sibling.
It's smaller & thinner, with less screen (3.2″ vs. 3.5″), less built-in storage (8 GB vs. 32 GB), a better keyboard (same layout as the Nokia N900), a nicer battery cover (stainless steel vs. plastic), no camera lens cover, and no FM transmitter...
Yet despite the reduced specifications, the N97 mini somehow feels like a more solid and more premium device than the N97 - and despite similar versions of S60v5 (with widgets & kinetic scrolling), the N97 mini feels faster and more stable than the N97 :)
I'll be putting the N97 mini through its paces, but for the time being, take a look at my pictures and video.
BTW, I snapped these pictures with my Samsung T929 (Memoir) in low light on a rainy day - notice the lack of noise. Also, I no longer have an N97, but here is a size comparison.

Warranty company SquareTrade recently conducted a study of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone accident rates to find that iPhone 4s are 68% more likely to break when compared to the older 3GS model. SquareTrade found that the front and back screens of the iPhone 4 account for 82% of accident claims. Tracey E. Schelmetic of TMCNet.com wrote, "...this means that an estimated 15.5 percent of iPhone 4 owners will have an accident within the first year of buying their new phone." "Interpreting the results more broadly, the iPhone 4 appears to be significantly more likely to break than previous versions, as we speculated back in our June iPhone report," said officials from SquareTrade. "Not only has the scratchable surface area doubled, the new aluminosilicate Gorilla glass used in the iPhone 4 doesn't seem any less likely to break than previous models. "While our data doesn't identify which broken screens resulted from dirt trapped behind a slide case, at least a quarter of the broken glass claims involved the back screen. With 82 percent more cracked screens reported, the evidence suggests that the iPhone 4 is more vulnerable to physical damage than its predecessor."
